Understanding our work on depression:

LumetrixDx is a brain-based test that helps clinicians assess and manage depression. LumetrixDx is currently undergoing clinical validation and testing, it is not yet available as a routine clinical test.

At this stage, LumetrixDx can only be used within approved research studies. Your doctor cannot currently order this test as part of standard care.

Depression is real – and deserves better tools

Depression is not a weakness, a failure or “just in your head”. It is a serious health condition that can affect how you feel, think, sleep, move and connect with other people.

Many people with depression:

Wait a long time before getting the right diagnosis and support
Try several treatments before finding one that helps
Feel that their experiences are not fully understood or believed

We believe that depression care should have access to more objective information about how the brain is functioning – not to replace your story, but to help make sense of it and guide decisions.

How the test works.

Looking at how the brain is working in depression

LumetrixDx is being developed to measure certain patterns of brain activity that are often seen in people with major depressive disorder.

A LumetrixDx test:

Uses small sensors placed on your forehead to record a few minutes of the brain’s natural electrical activity (EEG) while you sit quietly
Combines this information with your answers to a short set of questions about your mood and daily life
Gives your clinician a clear, standardised score and an explanation that can help them understand your current state and track change over time

The aim is to add to what you already tell your clinician, not to override it.

What the test does and does not do.

What LumetrixDx would – and would not – mean for you

What it is meant to do:

Provide an additional, objective piece of information about how your brain is functioning when you are experiencing depression
Help support decisions about diagnosis, treatment options and how your depression is changing over time
Offer a way to show that your experience has a real, measurable basis in the brain

What it is not meant to do:

It does not decide on its own whether you are “really” depressed or not
It does not replace talking therapy, medication or other treatments
It does not label you permanently or define who you are as a person
It does not send electricity into your brain or change how your brain works

Any result would always be interpreted together with your story, your symptoms and your clinician’s judgement.
